The mission of our seed potato cooperative is the production of flawless seed potatoes as well as their further processing, storage and joint distribution. In our work, we benefit from the good reputation that the Ardennes seed potato already enjoyed in France and Belgium between the two world wars. The harsh and humid climate of the High Ardennes and the humus-rich slate weathered soils form the natural basis for the good quality of Ardennes seed potatoes. This area offers very little opportunity for virus transmission by aphids, as these tend to prefer warm and sheltered locations.
Any farmer whose farm is located in Ösling (North Luxembourg) can become a member of the cooperative. Currently, 23 members are actively involved in production. The cultivated area per farm varies between 2 and 3 hectares. The cooperative capital is composed of shares subscribed by the active members.
The cooperative is responsible for the storage and sale of the seed potatoes of its producers. It also provides the basic seed potatoes for propagation. Advice and technical assistance from the cooperative guarantee optimum quality of the potatoes delivered.
